Chesapeake Bay In the afternoon, on the way back to New York City, the bus will take you to one of seven engineering wonders of the modern world, Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel. It is the 17 mile link on U.S. Rt. 13 between Virginia Beach/Norfolk and Virginia's Eastern Shore. There are four manmade islands each with approximately 5.25 acres of surface, 30 feet above water. On the Sea Gull Island, You will have the opportunity to observe navy and commercial ocean-going ships glide gracefully through one of the world busiest shipping channels through coin-operated viewing machines. You can also enjoy fishing, birdwatching, or just taking in the natural beauty and sounds of the Chesapeake Bay. |
