The theme parks that bring most visitors to Orlando are getting larger all the time: Walt Disney World, Universal Orlando and SeaWorld seem to be in a mad dash to out-build one another -- though Disney appears to be winning the race. Each year sees the addition of major new attractions, which means there's always something new and a reason to spend more time in the area. If you can escape the gravitational pull of the theme parks, there are some sights worth seeing in the city of Orlando, too. You can unwind at Lake Eola Park, a scenic oasis in the midst of downtown's shops, restaurants and nightlife. (The lake's fountain is lit at night with a rainbow of lights.) Early 20th-century homes and shops make nearby Church Street an interesting place to stroll. In the Orlando's historic neighborhood of Loch Haven you'll see the striking aluminum-domed observatory of the Orlando Science Center, which has interactive exhibits that appeal to kids of all ages. Also in Loch Haven is the Orlando Museum of Art, which will surprise those who think only older cities can offer serious collections. You can admire roses and camellias at the nearby Harry P. Leu Gardens.
